The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) is the sole state-mandated certification program in Michigan. Its primary goal is to guarantee that all certified teachers possess essential skills and knowledge of content areas to successfully teach Michigan students.
The teacher certification tests consist of multiple-choice questions. These questions are designed to determine an applicant's abilities and understanding by comparing their answers against a standard of performance that is objective. These criterion-based questions do not rank candidates against one another.
MTTC test questions are based upon the classroom curriculum, textbooks currently in use, and existing standards for teacher certification. The objectives for each area of testing are determined cooperatively by Pearson's Evaluation Systems and Michigan educators. Each test has been reviewed for validity in terms of content by a pool of teachers and other educators, randomly chosen.
Basic skills as well as a range of subject-area tests are currently part of the overall teacher certification program. Multiple-choice questions are given in all subject-area exams. In addition, the MTTC world language exams also contain a minimum of two performance tasks. The Basic Skills test adds a writing performance task in addition to the multiple-choice questions found in the Mathematics and Reading sections of the exam.
In order to help you prepare for your certification, we have created free practice test questions. These questions will not only give you an idea of the type of material that will be covered, they will familiarize you with the format to help your ultimate goal-passing your MTTC in your chosen area(s)!
